This note provides guidance on how to install and assemble Cash-based Value Add Centers (hereafter “VAC”) kiosk for the Laundroworks card system from Mitech Integrated Systems. Cash-based VACs are heavy and therefore Mitech strongly recommends that they be tied to a support pedestal unit, in addition to being mounted to a wall. This note is applicable to the following configurations:
Simply ignore any connections or components which are not applicable to your VAC. It is recommended that you install and test the VAC prior to installing the Machine Card Units (MCUs).
Make the following considerations when choosing the installation location:
Mitech always recommends using a supporting pedestal onto which to rest and secure the VAC.
Check the CAD drawing of the pedestal to understand the mounting locations. Typically, the pedestal is bolted to the ground and to the wall. The pedestal also has welded bolts and comes with hex nuts to secure it the VAC.
The VAC has a cut-out on the bottom-right to fit an AC output. It also has a knock-out for an optional conduit which the installer may run up against the wall and insert into the VAC from the side.
To secure it against the wall, the VAC has six holes on the back side:
There are also three mating holes on the bottom for the pedestal (not shown).
If necessarily, (to ease the process of securing the VAC to the wall) the front door of the VAC can be removed. To do this, unscrew the bottom bracket, as shown below. Also ensure to disconnect the three electrical connectors that attached to peripherals on the door front door.
The router provides internet to system and allows several components to communicate with each other. The following need to be connected to the router: VAC controller, Printer (via a converter box), Precidia box, and Tablet computer. The tablet computer communicates with the router through WiFi (this is preconfigured - you don't need to do anything).
Typically the tablet is not placed into the VAC during delivery. The tablet should be placed into the designated holding brackets. Connect the tablet's USB charger to the power bar. The tablet may need to be turned ON by holding down its power button for a few seconds.
The VAC controller is microprocessor-based board that controls many critical functions, including controlling the card reader, bill acceptor, card dispenser, communicating data to the tablet computer and more. It should already be attached to the VAC.
The VAC power supply and cable is provided and labeled. Connect this power supply’s AC side to the power bar and the DC side to the VAC controller as shown below. Note: if there is a tie wrap in the VAC, pass the power cable through the tie wrap as shown below (otherwise the cable will likely block the card dispenser).
Connect the Ethernet cable from the VAC controller to any port on the router (as long as its not the main blue port for external internet).
The printer is mounted to the door. The printer's serial cable should be connected to a converter module, which should be connected to the router by ethernet.
The printer power supply and cable is provided and labeled. Connect this power supply’s AC side to the power bar and the DC side to the printer’s red/black cable assembly, as shown below.
You should be provided with one or several rolls of thermal paper for the printer. To load the paper simply place it into the tray and feed the paper into the roller as shown the images below. If the printer is powered, it will automatically pull the roll. Cautionary note: The printer is sensitive to the angle it is operating in. When the VAC door is fully opened, the printer is not in a proper operating position. In the worst case, it may jam. Therefore, when loading the paper or otherwise operating the printer, ensure that the door is at least partially lifted (to angle 30 degrees above the ground)
The card dispenser is typically delivered fully connected. It does not require any connections to be made. Simply remove any protective cardboard pieces which may be present. The following are some considerations:
Payment component include a Precidia box, which is miniature computer that handles important and sensitive payment information, and either a PINpad or a magentic stripe reader.
The Precidia box should be connected to the router by a CAT-5 Ethernet cable and to the PINpad or magnetic stripe reader by a serial cable. The Precidia should be connected to the power bar via a supplied power supply. The PINpad should be connected to either the power bar or to a secondary AC outlet via its power supply.
