Alliance, Serial, Coin models

This installation document covers Coin models (sometimes called “Coin Prep”) with a serial interface from Alliance. Brands include Speed-Queen, Huebsch, IPSO. Continental-Girbau dryers are included. The reader goes in place of the coin-drop and should fit nicely without any drilling. Machines of various shapes and sizes are covered by this guide. Below are a few samples:

Note on ACA-type vs MDC/Quantum-type

The reader connectivity only differs depending on whether the electronic control board inside of these machine is ACA-type or MDC/Quantum-type. If the machine's control board is housed inside of a black plastic box similar to the one shown below, then the control is ACA-type. Otherwise, the control is MDC/Quantum-type.

Parts

The following parts are required to fully install the reader:

Shown above is the MDC/Quantum-type cable, which uses a different connector on the machine-side than the ACA-type cable.

Installation procedure

  1. Before proceeding, you should assign numbers to each of the machines in the laundry room/building. It is highly recommended that you place number labels on each washer and dryer machine.

  2. Set the machine type and number using the DIP switch on the reader's circuit board:
See DIP switch settings page to understand how to configure DIP switch positions to set the machine type (washer or dryer) and number.
  3. Turn machine power Off!

  4. Open the machine console so that you have direct access to the machine controller

  5. Change the coin box switch to the NC (Normally Closed) position as shown below (not applicable to all models)

  6. Set the machine to Card-Mode.
For MDC/Quantum-type, this is done by connecting the supplied jumper as shown below (remove existing jumper if present)

For ACA-type, this done using the machine control board's DIP switch: set switch #3 to the ON position, as shown below:

  7. Connect the cable assembly to the machine controller

  8. Pull cable assembly through the coin slots

  9. Close the machine console

  10. Secure the reader to the machine using the mounting bolt or nuts, as shown below.

  11. Power On the machine and apply the Activation card to the reader
